Watch the weather cross the Americas, live from orbit.

The sister app of Cloud Cover Europe, for the Americas: cloud cover as the GOES satellites see it, animated in a dashboard widget. The view covers North America, a region from the East Coast to Brazil, or a thousand-kilometre square around your Homey; for the latter, only a map extent centred on your position rounded to a hundredth of a degree, about a kilometre, is requested from the service.

Homey writes an automation in three parts: when something happens, and if a condition holds, then do this. Anything on a lighter background, such as radius, is a parameter you set in the Flow. Every condition also exists in its negative form, which Homey flips with one click.

  1. Version 1.0.2

    Cloud Cover America 1.0.2 brings a new name, a refreshed widget and a few fixes.

    • The app is now called Cloud Cover America.
    • GOES-West images are dated by their own satellite: when Around my Homey uses GOES-West, its time no longer comes from GOES-East.
    • The tile no longer goes blank after midnight UTC or while it refreshes: the current picture stays until the next one is ready.
    • Your Homey's position is rounded before it is sent.
    • The widget now fills the whole tile and offers five backgrounds: deep blue, slate, plum, forest and sand.
    • Tiles share a common layout: “Satellite image” and the area at the top, the picture in the middle, and a footer with play/pause, the time and the NASA GIBS and NOAA GOES credit.

    Add The Americas from space widget from your dashboard. In its settings, choose an area (North America, United States and neighbours, East Coast, West Coast, down to Brazil, or Around my Homey), a picture type, how much animation you want, and whether to mark your Homey. Then choose a background.
